Baby Shoe Cake

My wonderful client Lenore ordered this special cake for her daughter Vicci, whose wedding cake we made two years ago. This time it was to celebrate the birth of her first grandchild. With the painstaking love only a mother could show, Lenore put together these special "baby bootie" invitations, which was the inspiration for our cake. Inside is moist lemon cake with lemon filling and whipped cream.

Korean First Birthday "Dol"

The "dol" celebration is a very important milestone in the Korean tradition, marking a baby's first birthday. I think in ANY culture, the baby's first birthday is extremely important, because it means "you survived" Parenthood 101! This cake was a modern take on the traditional Korean colors, and we created a miniature replica for Baby Dillon.

Red Velvet Armadillo Cake

Once a Southern tradition, this rich, red-colored cake with cream cheese frosting was made famous by the armadillo groom's cake in the 1989 movie Steel Magnolias. We were asked to recreate that famous cake for a bridal shower. Inside is moist, red velvet cake layers with lots and lots of fluffy cream cheese frosting. (It's really just a vehicle to get the cream cheese frosting to your mouth.)

Tax Day!

April 15th is here, and congratulations to all of you who have sent in your taxes! Whether you owe or are owed, you are DONE! We made this cake for a young woman who just passed her CPA exams.

Clowning Around

The brother of a professional clown asked me to design some special cupcakes for his brother's birthday. I said, "Tell me about your brother." He says, "He's a clown...no, seriously, he's a clown. I'm not insulting the guy!" This is what we came up with.

A Dog's Life

Happiness is...a sleeping dog, replete with bone and bow handsculpted from sugarpaste. Inside is deep dark chocolate cake; the "fur" is fluffy buttercream.
